If you wish to read a review of the USA built PRS S2 Mira, courtesy of Dave Burrluck and Music Radar/Guitarist, then please click here – I will add additional notes, as detailed below, to support that article – In PRS terms the original Mira, plus the S2 Mira, are about as simple as it gets – Certainly with regards to aesthetic trimmings – As well as time spent on the whole design and build process – In many ways the Mira represents to PRS what the SG represents to Gibson and that includes its tonal character
For now, the S2 Mira is no longer part of the PRS product range – However I can offer for sale a new, but ex-display USA model – Yes it has a 2014 serial number, but until I recently purchased this Mira, from PRS, it had not previously been sold to any dealer – A ‘clear out’ of their store room revealed a number of ex-display, demo and review models, so I managed to acquire a couple of them at preferential prices – So effectively a new old stock model at £979 – Complete with the deluxe PRS gig bag (excluding UK VAT, the price is £816 for EU sales – Please contact me for UPS Delivery fees) – It has been on my bench for a new set of 10-46 gauge strings, fret polish, lemon oil to the rosewood fingerboard and a check-up, set-up to leave you with a slick and easy action – I found a small blemish on the rim of the body – Looks to be more under the lacquer, so less of a dint and more of a blemish – See web pic – The pic makes it look worse than it is – No rough edges to the blemish – Other than some pick marks on the scratchplate it is a clean instrument
The whole guitar only weighs 6lbs and 6oz so pure delight for some weight watchers – Pattern Regular C neck profile – So comfortable depth with a slightly more narrow top nut width – In essence a Tele influenced neck profile, or indeed similar to some Gibson SG’s from the mid/late 60’s era – Measures .856″ at the top nut end and .956″ around the 12th fret – 22 x Medium jumbo frets, plus the traditional PRS 10″ radius, ensures a slick and easy action is present and correct for you to enjoy – Slick licks are easy to play, or dig in and attack those big chords aka The Who – PRS locking tuners – PRS light weight wrapover bridge tailpiece with perfect intonation for a plain 3rd/G string
PRS designed + spec’d humbuckers that measure 7.75K neck and 8.46K bridge, so more akin to a PAF output/readings – Via the 3 way switch you’ll experience the traditional humbucking options – But lift up the tone pot to bring into play the ‘partial’ coil tap option – ‘Partial’ ensures a more credible single coil voice – Many traditional humbuckers in coil tap mode are far to thin and weedy – ‘Partial’ is a simple mod that first came known to us via the PRS DGT model, but is now part and parcel of many PRS models – Granted it won’t turn your SG into a Tele, but it does ensure you single coil tones are far more effective – The tonal character of the Mira is effectively that of an SG – Lush, warm and smooth from the neck – Tight with bite, body and depth from the bridge
