View guitar web sites, visit guitar shops, or read the guitar mags and you’ll find a host of the best selling classic guitars – Such guitars are not only the most recorded in popular music, they are probably the most copied – The classic Gibson and Fender models still influence many of today’s modern boutique guitar luthiers – Yet a Rickenbacker Guitar is pretty much unique – Not just the shape and styling, but the feel, playability and above all that clear punchy jingly jangly tone – Almost to the point that the world only has one contender as the most sought after electric 12 string – Instantly recognizable both on screen and on the radio – From the moment you first heard the Byrds play Mr Tambourine Man, or The Beatles play A hard day’s night, that Ricky tone has been part of pop history – The Who, Tom Petty, REM and the Smiths have picked up the mantle and ran with it – Moving on to today and I need to supply you with some details regarding this 2005 Rickenbacker 330/12 with the classic fireglo finish – I have checked the condition of the gloss finish, on more than a few occasions and can report that this is an exceptionally clean guitar, that includes the deluxe Rickenbacker case within the £1699 package – You’ll have to look long and hard to find any hint of a blemish – I found a couple, but you’d have to be very fussy to have any issues with the guitars condition – If it ain’t mint, it is pretty close to achieving that tag
Effectively the 330/12 has identical spec and features as per the classic 330, with the obvious inclusion of an extra 6 strings – Even the more expensive 360/12 string only differs with regard to a few cosmetic issues and the stereo output option – Hence maple body, maple neck, lacquered rosewood fingerboard, 10″ fingerboard radius, 24.75″ scale length, the R tailpiece, slotted headstock, dot inlays and of course a pair of Ricky single coil pick-ups – This 330/12 weighs 7lbs and 3oz – Re-strung and set-up with a set of original compressed round wound strings, to further enhance that authentic Ricky tone
