Exquisite and delectable are two suitable adjectives to describe this used, 2006 PRS McCarty Brazilian Limited Edition – If a guitar could be sold on its aesthetic appeal alone, then this appetizing quilted maple top has little competition – I’m selling it on behalf of a serious collector who only acquires the finest examples – Condition wise and it is just about in as new condition – You’ll certainly be hard pushed to find any blemish – Even the hybrid satin hardware shows little, if any, sign of oxidization – Complete with case + tags

Key assets of this PRS McCarty Brazilian Limited Edition are as follows :-

If I was to say the PRS McCarty Brazilian Rosewood Limited Edition is a ‘poor man’s’ Modern Eagle, it is meant to be a back handed compliment – Yes the Modern Eagle was designed and based upon the McCarty’s chassis, so take away its luxurious appointments  and you can see where I’m coming from – The blue matteo gloss finished maple top sits on a one piece mahogany body, that still features the ‘natural’ maple edged binding – A PRS trade mark, that is now copied by so many – The whole guitar weighs only 8lbs and 3oz – The solid one piece rosewood neck possesses a dark + even grained character, with a silky smooth ‘played in’ feel – The McCarty model pays homage to the great man behind many of Gibson’s finest guitars from the late 50’s period – As such it is very much a traditional flavoured instrument – The strings are anchored to the PRS wrap over bridge assembly – Whilst this looks simple, it is engineered to perfection, from a milled, one piece, aluminium block,  that is mounted to a pair of chunky brass studs, to optimise tone, sustain and harmonics – Still based on the early Gibson design, but now fine tuned to provide precise intonation – Select a set of 9’s, 10’s or 11’s with a plain 3rd string and you’ll have no intonation issues whatsoever

Tonal character and playing performance :- Played acoustically you’ll discover a big vibrant tone and that is always a good place to start any test drive – A pair of PRS McCarty humbuckers sit at the heart of the tone department – Fitted with alnico magnets, plus voiced and wound to deliver fat, warm, vintage flavoured tones – The neck pick-up purrrs as it kicks out 7.85K – The bridge pick-up is wound a little hotter, at 8.75K – A push/pull coil tap option can be found on the tone pot – It functions on both pick-ups, to give you access to some very useful single coil flavoured tones – Whilst they are not pure 60’s Strat territory, they are still very handy for those funky Chic style chops – What places this McCarty high upon another pedestal is the solid rosewood neck and fingerboard – It feels so smooth and silky, with that ‘played in’ from day one character, thanks to the natural finish of a rosewood neck – But this is just the start, as the neck contributes so much to the overall tone of the guitar, to produce softer warm highs, that are soothing and luxurious – To say the overall tone is full, rich and warm should give you some idea of what to expect when you get round to introducing this guitar to your amp – With clear lows, silky smooth highs, plus warm mids, that possess excellent articulation, so as not to go all mushy on you, this guitar is loaded with character – It is certainly influenced by the tones of a vintage flavoured LP  – On overdriven amp settings, utilise the volume pot to dial in/out subtle yet effective changes of gain, to deliver so much more soul, expression and emotion to your playing  – This approach will allow you to clean up a subtle overdriven amp setting as required – Whilst on hi-gain amp settings, a similar approach will still allow you to dial in/out variations in gain, from a full on approach, to something more gentle

Add the fluid playing action that a PRS delivers so well and from a playing performance point of view, there is very little to dislike about this guitar  – The wide/fat C neck profile  measures .863″ around the top nut end, then fills out to .948″ around the 12th fret – 1 11/16 nut width so on a  par with many classic Gibson models – PRS might call it a wide/fat profile but in reality it sits a tad slimmer than many 50’s flavoured LP’s – Easy to handle and very comfortable – Set-up with a 10-46 gauge strings and a slinky action that responds to a light touch
