I know the full history of this used Fender Custom Shop 1959 Journeyman Relic Tele with a cool, aztec gold, lightly aged finish – I sold it brand new around 4 years ago and can now offer it for sale again – One owner since new – The 3 way regular switch has been professionally changed to a 4 way switch, to give you access to the 3 regular Tele voices, as well as a fat humbucking option, with both pick-ups now wired in series – Otherwise the guitar is in as new condition – Clean frets – Re-strung and set-up with a set of 10’s and an easy action – Complete with the vintage case plus certificate – Listed below are my original web site notes – They are still correct and valid, so please read on

So many great attributes are loaded into this Fender Custom Shop ’59’ Tele that I’m not sure where to begin, so in no particular order let me hit you with a few key bullet points :-

Feel and playing performance :- Magical and user friendly – The 9.5″ fingerboard radius, plus medium jumbo 6105 frets, ensures easy string bending, even with 10’s, with a fluid playing action, that will allow you to dig in deep for those moody blues bends, as well as living in the fast lane, to show of a few cascading licks and tricks  you’ve worked hard to acquire  – The overall feel of the neck is pure vintage, from their golden era – At the top nut end, the C profile is straight from the early 60’s camp, so easy to handle chords and licks – As you move up the fingerboard, the neck fills out a touch, so you have plenty of substance in the palm of your hand, yet in no way will it impede your playing ability – It is the character of late 50’s models, as they moved from the early/mid 50’s models, with big clubby necks, then morphed through to the slimmer feel of a 60’s neck – Bottom line is it instantly feels comfortable and familiar like an old pair of faithful slippers

Tonal character :- Vintage flavoured at its absolute best – Partly thanks to a set of hand wound, custom voiced ’58’ pick-ups and partly due to a vibrant ash body – Whilst the rosewood fingerboard will offer softer highs, that are smooth and rounded, compared to a brighter attack from a pure maple neck/fingerboard combination – So in short it is that sweet ‘n’ sour combination, which in this case is warmth and clarity – You’ll hear some musical bite, edge and attitude from the bridge pick-up, that jingle jangle character with both pick-ups selected, plus a warm laid back character from the neck pick-up, coupled with sparkling clear highs – It is the Jekyll and Hyde character of a Tele that allows them to work in so many different musical environments – You can obtain a warm laid back character, that is required for chilled out jazz, through to a feisty punk based character, with plenty of attack and attitude, as required – Soft to raw and all the bases in between are equally available – With the overdrive option now selected on the amp, but still in the land of ‘less is more’  the neck pick-up delivers those softer tones that Robben Ford loves for chilled out chords, whilst retaining excellent articulation and clarity – Lows are clear and full, with just enough mids to thicken up the overall character, whilst a bell like chime can be heard from the top end – Still with a more subtle overdriven amp setting, the bridge pick-up delivers those classic crunch rhythm tones with some balls, body and bite – Tight and focussed – Or dig in for some country lickin tricks

Now add plenty of gain on the amp and the neck pick-up purrrs, with a velvet smooth character that is almost thick enough to compete with a Les Paul – With more gain on the amp, the bridge pick-up  just rips it up, with enough bite to take you to the edge of that ice pick attack, that is ideal for those feisty phrases and riffs – Yet just roll off the volume pot a touch, for a softer voice that sounds like it is more refined and under control – Utilise the Tele’s volume pot, to maximise the guitars expression, to ensure that you and the guitar control the amp – Hence no shortage of soul, expression and emotion at your finger tips – On classic rock/blues overdriven amp settings, this approach will allow you to obtain a cleaner laid back voice with the volume pot on/around 6 or 7 – Equally the tone pot will ensure you’ll always hear those sparkling crisp highs when it is wide open at 10, so for a sultry jazz vibe take it down as required

As I stated at the start, this Tele has a lot going for it and should ensure years of playing pleasure to any potential buyer
