Used but only just, so welcome back into stock a 2012 Collings City Limits Deluxe – Not only did I sell this City Limits Deluxe as a brand new guitar nearly 6 years ago, but when it was originally custom ordered by me, I actually hand picked the highly figured curly maple top, that proudly sits under a lush nitro amber sunburst finish, plus it was spec’d with a Madagascar fingerboard – It sure looks easy on the eye – Currently set-up with a set of 10-46 gauge strings, but I can change and edit as required – Includes the supa dupa deluxe Collings case – Condition wise it is very clean – I found one very minor nick on the nitro gloss finish, but a) it is minor and b) I’d be surprised if you found it on first viewing – One first viewing it looks in as new condition, so a close inspection will be required to find any hint of a graze, blemish or indeed any sign of previous use – No fret issues at all – The previous owner is a very discerning player and guitar tech, so changed the original Lollar Imperial pick-ups, pots and caps, to achieve a more realistic 59 PAF flavoured tone – So it is now spec’d with a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity PAF flavoured humbuckers, along with a set of 500K Emerson/CTS pots, plus TAD Tube Amp Doctor .02 micro farad,  paper in oil, tone caps, all wired to the 1950’s spec – Below I have listed my original web site info regarding this City Limits Deluxe

I love this quote that I borrowed from the Collings Guitars web site  ‘There are lots of products created with no greater aspiration than to be sold to a consumer, but as consumers of expensive musical instruments, many of us value the subtle signs that tell us the builder cared more than he had to – that careful thought, superior materials and skilled hands have all contrived to create an instrument that transcends the ordinary and defines the extraordinary – This is the best reason, in our opinion, to consider buying a superior instrument like this Collings City Limits Deluxe in the first place – If you simply need a guitar, you can buy one that is reasonably playable and creates a reasonably good sound these days for under £200, but you won’t be buying an instrument that has been artfully crafted from the best materials, or one that is capable of producing an extraordinary playing experience and tone

Collings City Limits Deluxe Spec/features :-

If you had to appraise this Collings City Limits Deluxe on its aesthetic status alone, then there is very little else that  I need so say – The pics will tell it all, but please remember it looks far more elegant in the flesh – I’m grateful to Collings in allowing me to hand pick a premium grade curly flamed maple top, which is matched to a high gloss amber sunburst nitro finish – I chose this curly maple top as it possesses lots of character, with a down to earth ’59’ flavour about it  – Some book matched, premium grade tops, look to perfect and as such maybe lack some character, yet the stylish results of this Collings speak for themselves

As against having to reinvent the wheel, the Collings approach is to take the essence of a classic model, add a few subtle yet effective tweaks, select the finest ingredients, coupled with impeccable workmanship and attention to detail, to ensure the City Limits delivers the ultimate playing performance – The Collings method is to build one guitar at a time, hence all woods, pots, capacitors and pick-ups are hand selected, to ensure that all components match and compliment each other – Woods are tapped and evaluated to ensure different tonal qualities and densities work together in perfect harmony – Appraise the City Limits, then you’ll fully appreciate that the knowledge, evaluation and attention to detail that Collings possess, pays dividend in the end

Tonal character – A large portion of the overall tone comes from the wood and in particular the neck – Fat neck, fat tone, thin neck thin tone, so like any good LP based instrument, the Collings City Limits has a fullish neck profile – Enough girth to enrich the tone, sustain and stability, but not to the point that it impedes the playing experience – The Collings may not exactly play itself, but you try and put it down and stop playing it – The guitar is set up with a slick playing action, therefore a set of 10’s still retain a slinky vibe to them – If you thought the aesthetic status had you hooked, then wait until you play it – Some might be able to resist the alluring qualities of that curly flamed maple top, but you try and resist the feel and playing performance that the City Limits offers  – It gets even better when you plug it – Full of emotion, expression, character and dynamics – If you want it clean, sultry and smoky, or crisp clear,  and bright but not brittle, then no issues – Add some overdrive and if you want it to waillllllllllll, then you try and stop it – Caress each note or attack each string and the City limits will respond – From slow and soulful single blues notes that have to blossom and bloom, to fluid legato licks that transcend the length of the fingerboard and as such require good note separation and articulation, the City Limits is on home turf – If you want that double whipped creamy warm smooth tone, or that throaty bark, that bites and sings in a musical way, then the City Limits delivers – The taper of the pots allows them to work smoothly and effectively over the whole 1-10 range – Roll off the tone pot and it will sound mellow without strangling the tone – The volume pots will allow you to control the amp, so add some overdrive, then for a chilled out soft blues voice, roll off the volume pot, or for the full blown overdrive, run the guitar wide open at 10 – The Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers have long held a well deserved reputation for producing some of the finest PAF based pick-ups on the market today, so when these are mounted on to a Collings City Limits, the wow factor moves up another level – Bell like clear top end – Tight focused lows, plus enough mids to add body without strangling the tone and going harsh and muddy on you – Overall, very organic and earthy, with a good balance between the 2 pick-ups as well as a good balance on each pick-up across all strings and the length of the fingerboard – The tone is obviously very LP influenced, no surprise on that score, but what Collings offers is an attention to detail, coupled with a fine playing performance that few if any Gibson’s can compete with
