It might not be in as new or mint condition, but it is in very good condition – Any signs of previous use are on the lighter side, so save a few pounds on the latest discounted dealer price and buy this – Complete with Fender gig bag – Re-strung and set-up with a new set of 10’s and a sensible playing action – For the weight watchers this Jag weighs 8lbs and 9oz – You generally find Jags and Jazzmasters weigh more than a Strat or Tele due to all the extra hardware, switches and metal control plates, so all in the land of acceptable
Back in the pre-CBS glory days, when the Jazzmaster and Jaguar were released on to the market place, I don’t think that 60 years later, many would have expected them to be played in grunge and indie bands, in the manner that they are today – Yet equally with thinner strings and lower actions, vintage based models can limit the playing performance that today’s players require – As such many players today add various upgrades and/or find a luthier to tweak these old guitars to suit – Fender have taken this on board and now you can buy a modern spec’d Jaguar – Changes are subtle and barely noticeable by actually looking at the guitar, so all the cool vintage character is there for you to admire – Yet subtle tweaks on the tremelo and the body/neck pocket, as well as a Gibson style tune-o-matic bridge, now ensure the Jaguar is far more user friendly and allows for a more precise set-up – Utilise heavy gauge strings, or 9/10 gauge strings, as required and/or a variety of drop tunings and the Classic Player is instantly useable – Additional tweaks include a 9.5″ fingerboard radius as well as 22 medium/jumbo frets – All of which allows for both a more fluid playing action and more controlled string bending – All the controls and switches look and function as per a vintage model, but at the heart of the tone department you’ll find a pair of tweaked single coil pick-ups that are now wound with a bit of extra juice in them, so drive and push the amps as required
All the classic single coil tones are there which are distinctively different to a Strat or Tele, in part due to the shorter 24″ scale length – On clean amp settings it is strong and crisp with more depth available from the neck pick-up and more bite from the bridge pick-up – Add the gain on the amp and from subtle settings to hi-gain settings, you can quickly see why such guitars have become favourites amongst so many players in the grunge and indie style bands – Power chords and riffs just cut through with a sonic tonal character, that is distinctive and effective – Jaguars maybe less desirable amongst the virtuoso lead players, but to many it may well be the only guitar you need, yet to others it certainly brings something different to the table and allows you to explore both new voices, fresh melodic ideas, cool riffs and chords – Keep it more simplistic and a Jaguar can be fun and effective
