Used Fender AM Strat Deluxe - tobacco sunburst
#3788 - £989

Two key issues that we need to attend to straight away regarding this 2005 American Strat Deluxe - One is with regard to the condition - Hawk eyed vision is be required to hunt down any sign of a blemish on the tobacco sunburst finish - If it is not 100% perfect it is damn close to that - Two, is that in my view, without spending around £2000, or more, on a Custom Shop Strat, the American Deluxe Strats are the best playing and best built Fenders that have been built for many a year - Period !!!!! - It is the guitar that blends Fender traditional values and features with innovation, to deliver a Deluxe model both by name and by nature
Spec is as follows:- A tobacco sunburst finish sits on an ash body - 22 medium jumbo frets sit on a rosewood fingerboard, which in turn is perched on a maple neck - The fretboard features a 9.5" to 14" compound radius fingerboard and includes a set of abalone dot inlays - The modern C neck profile feels comfortable, so add to that a thin satin finish on the maple neck, along with 'rolled' fingerboard edges and it instantly feels 'played' in - Set-up and re-strung with a set of 10's, you now have a Strat with a fluid playing action, whilst string bending, even with a set of 10's, still feels nice and slinky - Finally, to aid playability at the top end of the fingerboard, you have a sculptured heel around the 4 bolt neck plate - Upgraded hardware includes a set of Fender/Schaller locking tuners and the 2 point modern fulcrum trem system, so improved tuning stability straight away - 'Pop-in' trem arm as well, so no stripped threads to worry about, plus it feels nice, smooth and positive with no 'slack' in the movement
Mounted on the 3 ply mint green pickguard you have a set of Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pick-ups, controlled via a 5 way switch, master volume control, neck tone pot and a 'no load' tone pot for the middle and bridge pick-ups - Also note the S1 switch built into the centre of the volume pot (more on this later) - The 'no load' tone pot, effectively means more highs/bite/clarity, when you leave the tone pot on 10 - Roll it off a touch to 8 or 9 for a softer voicing - The 5 way switch allows you to select the regular Strat tones we have known and loved for many years - The S1 switch now allows you to select another 5 tonal options, simply by pushing in the centre of the volume control knob - Leave it alone if you wish to and just stick to the regular Strat voices - Using different series and/or parallel wiring options with or without an extra capicitor allows you to add some new Strat voices, which I dare say you'll love them or ignore them, but the two voices I find very hand are with the S1 pushed down and the 5 way selector switch set on position 1 or 5 - On position 1 you now have the middle and bridge pick-up wired in series, so it now becomes a bridge humbucker - Likewise position 5 gives you the middle pick-up wired in series with the neck pick-up, so it is like having a humbucker in the neck position - Price at £989 and that includes a clean Fender hardshell case
