A few months ago I sold a used Tom Anderson Classic T that was so inspiring, that I decided to place a custom order for a guitar with similar spec, so a few months later we are glad to be able to say that here it is - It's a classic style from tip to toe, including the tobacco burst finish sitting impeccably on a contoured swamp ash body - Yes the body is contoured on the rear, like a Strat, so it hugs to your body nicely
What makes an Anderson Guitar oh so special is not it looks, as that is the easy bit - It is the labour of love, from a small team of dedicated luthiers, who are committed to delivering an instrument that is both a joy to play, with an unparalleled playing experience, that allows your technique to move on to another pedestal, whilst ensuring a set of tonal voices that can only enrich the whole package - Anderson do not copy other guitars - Yes they take an obvious influence, but in the same way that all cars have 4 wheels, a front and a back, Anderson take this classic vibe and hone it to perfection, to ensure an instrument that is as close to perfection that can possibly exist
The neck has a popular 1 11/16" nut width, with a comfortable 60's based neck profile - We spec'd it with an extra .020" on the rear, so whilst it is not chunky, the extra meat ensures it feels oh so delightful within the palm of your hand - A set of jumbo frets, along with the flatter modern fingerboard radius, allows you to have a low action, coupled with easy string bending, all delivered with no buzzing, all of which ensures it plays like a dream - Even the set of Elixir 10 gauge strings, that are supplied on this guitar, feel slinky, so maybe a few brave players may try a set of 11's - Finally the satin finished maple neck ensures you have a guitar that has that nice played in vibe about it
The swamp ash body delivers an instrument with natural lively ring about it, even when played unplugged, but things just get better when you hook it up to your favourite amp - Fitted with a pair of custom wound and voiced Anderson pick-ups - In the bridge we have a TF3, which as Anderson quotes, delivers the finest single coil tones, yet hum-cancelling, so listen to those rich, full bodied tonal qualities, accentuated by sweet soft and lush highs that are always smooth and clear - The TF3 is wound a touch hotter, for a full bodied grunt and bite as and when required - To compliment the tone of the TF3 we have a HC1 humbucker - Velvet smooth with clear highs and full of tone - The 3 way switch delivers the classic voices that you'd expect - However to spice up things just a bit more, we've included the Anderson VA boost circuit - This VA booster is a none active circuit, that allows you to have the option of a different voicing (more ooomph/more mids), yet still retains the original characteristics - Think of it as allowing you to select either a crisp sounding maple neck Tele or a fatter sounding rosewood neck, yes its subtle, but it works - Playing it for just a few minutes through an amp, reinforces what you've probably already suspected and that is that it sounds so good, with loads of soul and emotion, along with a dynamic range that few other guitars can match - Keep it clean for cool layed back jazz and blues and it purrs - Hit the bridge pick-up for those country esque and/or rock 'n' roll licks that bite with musical qualities - Add some dirt on the amp for those classic tele-esque crunch rhythms that are known the world over, or pile on the dirt and let it move into classic rock territory - It is one of those guitars that allows you to play any style, through any amp, from clean through to shred metal, and sound good all the time - Weight watchers will love it, as it just creeps over the 7lb level by approx the equivalent of a bag of sugar.
