Say hello to this PRS Custom 24 Special Edition Model hand picked by me from the Experience show - Once again Guitars4You attended the PRS Experience Event - As well as viewing new PRS models, a visit to the Private Stock wood library and picking wood for another 2 Private Stock models, chatting to various artist, factory luthiers and Paul himself, it also allowed us to hand pick a few tasty guitar to further enrich our 'PRS Platinum collection' including this adorable Custom 24 - Note the new faded blue burst finish, the first such time that a Custom 24 has utilised this finish - Furthermore, it is equipped with a pair of the highly sort after PRS 57/08 humbuckers - So far these pick-ups have only been utilised on limited edition Custom 24 models and the 25th Anniversary models, so this is the first time they have been available on a more 'regular' model - I say 'regular' as that flamed maple '10' top is anything but 'regular' - This guitar has so many fine things going for it - The pick-ups, the finish, the maple top - Each on its own will probably make the guitar worth buying, but include them all on one instrument and you have a sure fire bet on your hands
Other details and spec are fairly regular for a Custom 24 - South American mahogany for the neck and body - Indian rosewood fingerboard - Nickel hardware including the 14:1 ratio locking tuners, with brass string posts - PRS modern fulcrum tremelo with milled brass saddles and a milled brass tremelo block - It is now generally accepted that the PRS tremelo is the finest 'non-locking' tremelo on the market today, with a smooth and postive feel about it, that requires seriously excessive use to make it go slightly out of tune, so for regular day to day work, it performs well - The neck has the popular wide/thin profile to it, so as you let your left hand roam up and down the neck and fingerboard, you know that a fast fluid playing action awaits, across all 6 strings and 24 frets - The feel and comfort of a PRS neck is legendary
Now add those PRS 57/08 humbucking pick-ups, along with the 5 way switch, to maximise tonal variation and the package is complete - The 57/08 humbucking pick-ups give the guitar so much soul and emotion with plenty of warmth - The articulation is as good as ever, but now you have more depth and body coupled with luxurious smooth highs that are so musically warm, that work so well on clean amp settings, subtle rock/blues overdrive settings or hi-gain amp settings - The 57/08 pick-ups are well suited to various musical environments from laid back jazz and blues, through to Santana and Van Halen rock, with everything else in between - Maybe they are touch to smooth for Anthrax or Metallica style rock, but then no one guitar does it all - The 5 way switch allows you to choose between 3 humbucking voices, plus 2 excellent and very useful 'out of phase' single coil voices - Additionally you have a volume and tone pot that works across the while 1-10 range, without harming the tonal quality - Set the amp up with some overdrive and roll off the volume pot on the guitar until you 'clean' up the amp sound to the level you desire, allowing you so much more control and emotion over your playing - This really is one versatile guitar that allows you to maximise and/or improve your playing.
