You can hardly say a 20 year old Les Paul is rare, yet equally you don’t see that many fine nice used examples in guitar stores today – So let me update you with a few key details regarding this used, 1997, Gibson Les Paul Standard, with a heritage sunburst finish – It weighs 9lbs and 3oz, which is not the lightest nor the heaviest LP you’ll find, but still more than credible – At least it should be safe to assume it is solid and not a chambered model – Overall it is in excellent condition – Some slight compression marks on the rear of the mahogany body, from the usual buckle rash – Certainly nothing nasty or untoward and more of a graze to the top surface, so nothing that shows the bare wood – Otherwise very little negative comments to report on the finish – Lightly faded, played but well cared for – The original deluxe Gibson brown case is again in clean condition – the security catch is broken (as many are), but otherwise clean
All original throughout – No fret changes – No repairs – No headstock breaks etc etc so a good example – Kluson style tuners with hexagonal ferrules/nuts Original Gibson pick-ups with the neck measuring a paf flavoured 7.55K and the bridge somewhat hotter at 13.12K – The one piece mahogany neck has a C profile that measures .830″ around the top nut end and .990″ around the 12th fret – So a touch of the slimmer 1960 profile around the first few frets, than gently fattens out as you move up to the dangerous end of the neck – Frets are fine – Re-strung with a new set of 10’s and set-up with a sensible slick action – How does a Les Paul sound ? – Do I really need to tell you ? Suffice to say that as you play a few laid back licks, chords, riffs and screaming lead licks, through a clean or overdriven amp setting you quickly notice you are playing a Les Paul – It’s musical, its fat, its warm, it can scream and bark, but it can smoother you with lush qualities as well
