How about this for a used, yet exceptionally clean Fender AM Strat Standard HH with a classic black finish – Serial number indicates a 2014 date of birth – It is just about in as new condition, so hunt long and hard to find a hint of a graze – Knowing how easy a black finish marks, then it obviously has been played on only a few occasions – £730 buys you a very useful USA Strat that is complete with a deluxe Fender padded gig bag – It has made a quick visit to my bench for a new set of 10’s as well as a check up and set-up, so it’s already to go with a slinky fluid playing action

Playing performance :- The satin finish on the maple neck ensures this Strat possesses that ‘played in from day one character’ so none of that sticky feel that is often associated with a new gloss finished neck – The Modern C neck profile is of medium to slim size, so easy to handle – Add 22 jumbo frets, along with a 9.5″ fingerboard radius and a slinky playing action allows you to show off a few fancy licks and tricks – String bending is nice and easy without any choking out, even with a slinky action – For guitar players looking for a Strat that possesses a bigger tone, thanks to a pair of custom wound humbuckers, coupled with a slinky playing performance then this maybe your Strat
Tonal character :- The acoustic properties of a Strat still apply here, thanks to a bolt – on maple neck, with an alder body and a 25.5″ scale length – So a vibrant and lively acoustic quality is always present – So when you add a pair of humbuckers to a Strat it does not suddenly turn into a fat Les Paul flavoured tone – As such it retains plenty of the lively qualities of a Strat, with good snap and attack, but now far bigger and fatter – From clean chilled out fat tones, to overdriven rich tones that purrrr, the neck pick-up is smooth and rich with good articulation – The bridge pick-up delivers good bite with plenty of girth – Transparent mids, with tight lows and clear crisp highs – For the classic rock styles of say Bon Jovi the bridge humbucker on overdriven amp settings delivers the goods – Whilst both custom wound pick-ups are hotter than a vintage flavoured humbucker, they still utilise alnico magnets to retain musical warmth – Set the amp up with subtle or hi-gain overdriven settings and the volume pots on the Strat allow you to dial in different overdriven levels as required – As such, you can leave the volume pot on or around 7 for much of your work, then wind it back towards 10 as and when you require that additional boost – Hence more soul and emotion at your finger tips – Elliot Randall and Eric Bell are two Strat players who regularly use a twin humbucker Strat – It might not please the true blues Strat fan, yet for modern classic rock styles it certainly has its place – To some guitar players it might well be the only Strat you need – Yet for a player who already owns a regular Strat, yet sometimes wish it had a bit more girth to the tone, then this Strat can compliment your existing set-up – Yet it is not just for a Strat player who wants big fat overdriven rock tones as it works well on clean amp settings, for smooth, chilled out warm tones that still glisten and chime
